Scrutiny of Secret Green Space Sell-offs Meeting 8 June
The scrutiny panel into the green sapce sales will meet on Wednesday 8 June 2011 at 7pm.
Meet at 6:30 outside the Civic Offices in Merrial Steet. We need as many to attend the meeting as possible to show the strength of feeling accross the Borough.

Residents address scrutiny panel on site visits
The scrutiny committee into Newcastle Borough Council land sell-off plans visited four of the sites planned to be developed on 24 May 2011.
Residents addressed the scrutiny committee voicing their objections to the land sell-off process. Copies of the residents objections in relation to the parks and greens at Clayton Road ,Winchester Drive, and Repton Drive are reproduced here.

Green Space Protests Step Up at Council Meeting
A demonstration was carried by the residents of The Westlands Seabridge Clayton and Talke against the sale of green spaces in The Borough on Wednesday 18 May. The demonstration was outside The Newcastle Civic Offices as the councillors arrived for the full council meeting which also saw the new mayor elected. About 12 demonstators carrying banners and shouting "Save our green spaces"were present. They then occupied the public gallery to listen to the proceedings that followed.
Tories hold Westlands seat despite 23% swing to Labour
David Leech won 35% of the vote, compared with 48% by Mark Holland the Conservative in the normally Tory stronghold. This compares with just 15% and 59% for Labour and Conservative respectively in 2007, the last time this seat was up for election. This is an enormous 23% swing towards Labour*.
