Chairperson's statement WSCRA

Green Spaces Saved

Dear Westland’s Seabridge & Clayton Residents.

We are delighted to inform you at the cabinet meeting held on the 18th July 2012 to a packed public gallery, Cllr Eddie Boden Deputy Leader proposed that all 7 green field sites be removed from the SHLAA, which means they cannot be developed under the new Sites Allocations Policy, Development Plan (the new name for the SHLAA)

This report was then called in on the 23rd July 2012 under the councils ‘call in’ procedure, by the following Lib Dem &
Conservative Councillors:
Cllr W.N. Jones -Thistleberry –Lib Dem
Cllr D. Loades -Loggerheads & Whitmore-Con.
Cllr S White -Madeley-Lib Dem
Cllr M. Redditch -Lib Dem
Cllr C.D.Cornes –Audley, Bignall End-Lib Dem
Cllr B. Walsh -Madeley-Lib Dem.

This ‘call in’ request went to the councils Transformation and Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee on the 25th July 2012 when a vote was taken to uphold the call in request to not proceed with the removal of the 7 Greenfield sites from the Newcastle Development Programme, the vote was not successful, 7 for and 4 against.
Repton, Winchester and Clayton Road Fields will not be developed under the current administration. However we must not rest on our laurels, the Village Green Application is still ongoing and if successful will achieve a long-term protection of our green spaces from development.
